Word salad

Somewhere between wanting to sound smart and not knowing what to say, a word salad is born.

Word salad happens when ideas are not organized before they are spoken or written. It also happens as a defence mechanism, fill the space, hedge the claim and qualify the point until nothing is left to argue with...or follow.

The result is a wall of language with no clear structure.

Context disappears.

The reader or listener cannot tell what matters and they cannot connect to what the point is. In other words interpretation becomes guesswork.

Clear communication is not about sounding impressive. It is about building a clean line from idea to sentence to meaning so others can follow it without effort.

Clarity in communication comes from simplicity, but not simplicity for its own sake. It is about balancing respect for the reader’s time and your ideas.
